The One Sentence Intervention,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Have you ever come across a bit of information that works like magic in the classroom? Mine is the one-sentence intervention,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], explained in the Teaching With Love Logic book by Jim Fay and David Funk. They suggest going to that student at least six times during the next three school weeks using a sentence intervention. The intervention is simply you noticing something personal about that student. noticed that you are wearing blue sneakers. noticed that you got a hair cut. noticed that you like pro wrestling. noticed that you really like to draw pictures. should be no value judgments attached to these statements; no praise or evaluation of what you observed. Just a simple matter-of-fact statement about the student. If they say so what? you say,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I just noticed that about you. I have successfully used this technique on building relationships with college aged students. My problem is that I get so involved,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I sometimes forget my techniques. I posting this in my blog not only to share with you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but to remind myself about this in the future.
My memory was jogged about this simple intervention by Paul Bogush post on his blog. You don force the communication but you do politely it up to the floor. Genuinely speaking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if your true intent is to build a better relationship they will see that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], vica versa ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if you are just asking questions but you are not giving that intent they will understand that too! thus will be offended! But if you are true to ones self and you get no reaction to that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it not your fault,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it is their personal side,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it could be many things,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], triggers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], trust issues,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and many others.
