Sherar's Falls Oregon Whitewater Kayaking Routes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
This run has more horseshoe bends and fewer rapids than the Deschutes River: US 26 Bridge to Sherar's Falls run,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the current is brisk. Allow 3 to 4 days to run this portion of the Deschutes River. From early times,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Native Americans had a bridge across the narrow gorge below the falls. Today they have treaty rights to fish for salmon at the base of Sherar's Falls. During the spring and fall,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they stand on scaffolding to dip salmon from the maelstrom below. A possible put-in is just above the bridge on Oregon 216 at Sherar's Falls (rivermile 44) on the right bank. Bridge Rapid,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], class 3,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is just below this put-in; it is more difficult in low water. A better put-in is 1 mile down the access road along river right past Buck Hollow (this road continues to rivermile 23). At Wreck Rapid (rivermile 39),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], class 3+,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the extreme right is clean; the center is runnable but has some concealed rocks. No major rapids appear for the next 30 miles, but the river moves at 5 miles per hour. Many small rapids are present. Character: popular desert canyon.
