You'll need context. First,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my friend in her fine blog, Fritinancy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wrote a piece about a new kind of Earth Shoe (you may remember Earth Shoes, although you may not remember that they were made by Kalso,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], only with a Scandinavian "o") called Earthies, which look comfortable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she reports, but also are not canted backward like the original Earth Shoe. How you feel about that depends on how you felt about Earth Shoes, if indeed you even remember them.
And Tatana,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], mentioned above, is a style of Earthies. And the sentence I made you read is from the promotional copy on the Earthie website for Tatana. That is all the extrinsic information you have.
Now to me (and here I wave my hands in an unconvincing manner), "when an evening is meant to be void of compromises," it's meant to . really,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I think they mean "devoid" of compromises. Now what sort of evening would that be? An evening in which you get to stomp your nicely clad foot and demand that everything be exactly the way you want it? That might be fun for you, but how would the rest of us feel? Would we blame the shoes?
Or is it "now I will not compromise with conventional wisdom, I will say 'yes' when I want to say 'yes' and damn the tournedos Rossini. Tonight I am not bound by the petty rules of society!" In other words, it's sort of the "F- me" shoe of the Earthie line. I have seen a picture of the Tatana, and it does not say to me "have your way with me" so much as it says "I can speak amusingly on a variety of topics," which is also a virtue but of course one filled with compromises.
Oops,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], here's the Saravena: "When the Saravena sweeps across the floor, it's a stunning sight - the resplendent suede straps,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the subtly rounded toe, the dazzling accent buckle. "The unique contoured wellness footbed" is a feature of every Earthie. Remember,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], these are still Earth Shoes, even if they're not. Scandinavian earnestness is still going to be part of the package.
The only part of the pitch I don't at least sort of understand is "satiated by its many virtues." If you're satiated before you even walk out the door, what's the point of going out? You're instantly jaded. Why not put on some nice non-earth-related fuzzy slippers and read middlebrow literature?
And now: "Beautifully apportioned,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the inscrutable Barina. A style that pairs modest sensibility with hints of alluring surprise. Its brushed suede folds that gently cascade across the forefoot. Its seductive zipper that locks in the wellness 'secret' of a uniquely contoured comfort footbed. Whoever this guy is, he saves his best shot for last. Maybe that's why they're worried about the Void all the time. Read was the first English philosopher to embrace existentialism. Ha!
