PSO cleans Mayawati's shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
A personal security officer of Uttar Pradesh [ Images ] Chief Minister Mayawati [ Images ] on Tuesday created a furore when he bent down to wipe her dusty shoes with his handkerchief during her visit to Aurayia district,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The incident took place on Sunday when Mayawati was visiting Naunipur village in the district. On noticing her dusty shoes after she alighted from a chopper, PSO Padam Singh,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who has been working with her for long and was close to her mentor and Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], started cleaning her shoes.
Singh, a retired police officer currently on extension,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], supervises the personal security of Mayawati, sources said. Opposition parties have slammed the 'feudal' attitude of the chief minister.
"The manner in which the chief minister is behaving and working is shameful and a security personnel wiping her shoes is a deplorable incident,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," SP state president Akhilesh Yadav alleged.
He said that it was sad to see that a person entrusted with the CM's security was wiping her shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"If this government continues then even the officials will have to do the same act," he alleged.
"She is starting new traditions in politics. First,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she got her statues installed and now this shameful incident has come to the fore. This is a feudal attitude,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Yadav said.
Slamming the chief minister,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "Mayawati,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who rode to power by claiming to fight against feudalism,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has adopted the same culture after becoming the chief minister".
"Getting shoes wiped by a government official is wrong and the security personnel should not have done such an act," he said.
However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the BSP reacted by saying that nothing much should be read into the incident.
BSP Member of Legislative Assembly Nawab Seyd Kazim Ali said, "I don't think this is really an issue at all. I don't think she asked the security officer to clean her shoes or anything and this is something which is a non-issue. All rights reserved.
