New mall stores offer something for everyone
Whether your passion is chocolate, shoes or the latest technological gadget,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can be sure of one thing: If there is not already a store for you at the Danbury Fair Mall, one is on its way.
From renovations to additions, the mall is updating its appearance and client base at every opportunity.
Williams-Sonoma relocated to an 8,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000-square-foot location with a cooking station on the upper level on the Macy's end of the mall in July. "Williams Sonoma provides cooking equipment and everything needed to set up the kitchen and dining room - and entertain," said assistant store manager Marcia Vietrogoski.
Some of the popular products include Apilco (French porcelain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],) different brands of coffee and espresso machines and cookware from from in Brookfield made truffle cheese fondue for customers to nibble. For St. Patrick's Day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], guest chef , who has taught cooking classes at in New Milford,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was planning to serve lobster bisque and Bailey's ice cream.
"The theme is to make people feel comfortable doing things in their own kitchens: to get people to try things out," Vietrogoski said.
One group of customers has expressed particular excitement with the roomy expansion: mothers with double strollers. Vietrogoski's favorite comments are from moms who can now actually get in and shop around the store comfortably. Holiday crowds also found space to maneuver.
Danbury's Williams Sonoma used to be a "classic store," but since the renovations has graduated to "grande cuisine." The grande cuisine type of store, according to the company's Web site, features larger stores, wider product selection,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a tasting bar and kitchen demos. Grande Cuisine stores like Danbury's are also featured in Manhattan on 59th and Lexington, Michigan Avenue in in San Francisco. Vietrogoski said traditionally, more women than men shop in the store,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but since the renovation, the number of male shoppers have been increasing. The store's customers range from young women with bridal registries to grandmothers buying things for their grandchildren.
Another popular new store in the mall is Apple, the computer store,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which opened in October. It is only the second such store in Connecticut. Apple sells IPODs and MACs that are hot right now. At the Apple Genius bar, customers can get help with their computers by waiting in line - like taking a number at the deli counter. You can also buy computers right in the store, instead of having to have them shipped. There is even a children's area with a kid-size table, and computers set up. of Southbury was waiting for the genius bar to get help with his IPOD.
"The access is awesome! You're able to try out the products," he said, pointing to the table where the IPODs were set up for customers to sample.
"Customers love it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said , Apple's assistant manager. "It's always non-stop."
One of its most popular products is a new IPOD that just came out: a second generation mini that has a longer battery life.

There is also Sephora, open since May, where cosmetics range from trendy to medical brands. L'Occitane, a high-end skin-care and fragrance beauty store, opened in July.
