Berkshire Theatre Group has assembled as fine a cast as might be imagined to perform Masterson's play. 's marvelously nuanced,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], yet striking portrayal of Edith Wilson is a riveting one. So is 's characterization of President Wilson.
They collaborated successfully in creating a picture of the playful and humorous moments of their shared life to the somber and tragic ones,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Other members of the cast likewise turned in well-crafted portrayals. Hatanaka as Edmund Starling showed what devotion to the president and first lady would come to mean. Steven Skybell was a suitably frustrated physician caring for the president and caught up in a vortex of political intrigue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
There is nothing to fault in 's capable direction of his cast. It's the Masterson script that warrants commentary,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The play sometimes seems to devolve into brief scenes in which opposition to Wilson's political agenda -- his promotion of the -- takes on a cops-and-robbers spin verging on soap opera,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The depiction of Lodge as purely a scheming operative does a disservice to the momentous issues of the day addressed in the drama,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Edith's impact on her husband's presidency was not merely a devotional exercise,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It may have represented a constitutional crisis.
Lodge's suspicions about her role in government are parodied in Masterson's work. The script attempts to paint a picture of the way bad people behave when they get power,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as though unmindful of the broader constitutional issues at play.
