All four of the remaining candidates for the 2012 Republican nomination are fighting for the title of the only "true conservative". Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum have both taken turns at the top of the polls after riding waves of conservative support with Mitt Romney being the fallback candidate for many Republicans who simply do not think anyone else can win. Romney's super PAC, Restore Our Future, has already taken out Gingrich with negative ads in Florida and is now focusing on Rick Santorum by claiming that he voted for 51 spending bills and 0 to cut spending, voted to allow felons to vote, and voted to give himself a pay raise while a Senator from Pennsylvania. With all the mudslinging back and forth designed to undermine claims of conservatism by the candidates, one candidate has yet to be attacked for his record: Ron Paul. Even more, Paul is shown to be surging. He defeated Newt Gingrich in a straw poll yesterday in his home state of Georgia and also defeated President Obama in a head-to-head match-up in Ohio.
