Former Jets WR Braylon Edwards claimed off waivers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Last week, wide receiver Braylon Edwards called out the New York Jets front office on Twitter while defending his former quarterback, Mark Sanchez. He urged his following not to blame Sanchez,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who was benched,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but to "blame the idiots calling shots".
He later apologized, and now just a week later finds himself once again employed by those same shot-calling idiots. Having been on the Seattle Seahawks' roster, Edwards was waived injured on Monday.
The Jets, aching for bodies at the wide receiver position,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], put in a waiver claim for their former receiver, and were awarded his services for at least the three games remaining in the 2012 regular season.
Earlier in the season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Jets lost Santonio Holmes to a lisfranc foot injury,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ending his year. Holmes was far and away the team's most experienced receiver and carried their wide receiving unit.
In addition, the team's rookie wide receiver,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Stephen Hill,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has been battling injuries for much of his freshman season, and when he has been on the field,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he has had issues with dropping passes. He went down with a knee sprain on Sunday against Jacksonville.
An MRI yesterday revealed it as an LCL sprain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the team did not specify the severity of the sprain, making the potential timetable for his return purely guesswork.
The absence of Holmes and Hill leaves the team with just Jeremy Kerley and Chaz Schilens as wide receivers with experience on the team, as Clyde Gates-who has seen his role in the offense increased in recent weeks-is also dealing with a concussion.
Bringing back Edwards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who has experience working with Sanchez,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gives the team a legitimate and big-bodied target for its struggling passing game. Though he had worked with Sanchez,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he has not worked with new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, so there may be some adjustments in that respect.
For his career,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Edwards has started 90 of 109 career games, catching 349 passes for 5397 yards and 40 touchdowns.
