At the time the XP2800 chip was over three times as expensive, true I've only gained 16% but if it does die I can buy a new mobo,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Xp2500 Barton, Ti4200 and some memory for what it would have cost me for a XP2800 chip. I'm happy with the small risk and have saved considerably on what I would have paid for the fastest availaible processor at the time.
The point I was trying to make was if you want an overclocked system why pay such a high premium for standard parts which are instantly unwarrentiedby someone elseoverclocking? How would that system run on a hot day when the Ambient temp hit 40 deg C. Sure pay a premium for higher spec parts but not just the standard parts under stress. Would anyone pay 450 for a 150 XP2500+ Barton that would run at XP3000+ speeds. No, you'd buy the XP3000+ Barton for the same 450. And you definately wouldn't pay 600 for the same XP2500+ Barton with a fancy cooler just to get XP3000+ performance.
It may be faster than anything you can buy off the shelf today and someone who wanted a ready o/c'd system just to have the fasted system available may pay a small premium for the additional hardware but $4000 is just plain madness when as you've said, with current games the system won't perform noticable better. Well unless you eyes can see at 100+ frames / sec
I have to question the wisdom of those systems. You are paying twice normal price to go 20% faster? They dont even come with quality audio hardware to match the video hardware. (Sound Blasteris known for bad drivers and iffy sound specs.) And like the other guy said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where is the monitor?
Next, If I am paying money for quality I like to see it backed up by a lifetime warranty. Hey Craftsman tools are (mostly) lifetime warranty and you know,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they dont break vwry often! Thats whay I use Corsair mems(that and they are black).
Also they all come withonly 1 hard drive? That is not a recipe fpr speed. If I pay that much I want a system disk,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an App disk and a doc array. Maybe even SCSI for the system disk,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], apps on the plain IDE bus and the docs on the raid card or built in raid? Heck these dont even have drive caddys!
SO basically you are paying for the pretty color case, and so some geeks can have all the fun OCing your computer.

XP1800 (soon to be XP2500 or 2800)
all in wonder radeon 8500 DV
all with black round cables and a fancy piano black case with a lucite front bezel, did I mention that all the externally visible components are black? (trench coat mafia boo.) ANd yeah it can play all those hip games but more importantly, It has gozintas and gozouttas up the yin yang. I am doing music and video on it so that is what really matters!
