Business management software company MYOB's latest Business Monitor shows 49 per cent of small to medium business owners are aiming for client and revenue growth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Businesswomen were more focused than men when it came to growing customer numbers (54 per cent compared with 45 per cent),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
MYOB chief executive Tim Reed said customers would understandably remain the core focus for SMEs in maintaining and strengthening business health in 2012,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"What I found especially interesting was the insight we received into the importance SMEs place on driving growth through diversification,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
"It makes sense for today's business owners,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], many of whom face increasingly financially conservative customers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to foster a 'stickier' customer by providing more products or services to whet their appetite.
"For many it will be the key to their survival in a two-speed economy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
Other key areas of focus for SME operators were selling products and services online (24 per cent) and a focus on customer acquisition strategies (34 per cent),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
