Can LeBron Become The Billion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
mama said knock you out It's as though she's saying,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "No pressure sweetie,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but you better knock down that free throw before I knock you out." Jokes aside,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if you thought that LeBron did not have enough pressure and stress to make it into the NBA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he now has the added strain of knowing that he has a hefty liability for the vehicle. True,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the moment NBA commissioner David Stern calls out his name on draft day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], LeBron will be able to repay the debt (and most Third World nations' debts for that matter) with one swoosh of a pen.
LeBron's mother did not break any rules. After all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for several weeks, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) tried to find something,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], anything, wrong with his mother's gift. Nothing was found.
Then the powers that be came down hard on LeBron for having accepted two jerseys worth $845. These jerseys belonged to NFL Hall of Famer Gale Sayers and NBA great Wes Unseld. Frankly, this was not even all that odd. While that may have been odd, to put it mildly, I would imagine that any self-respecting referee would welcome the opportunity to take a picture with Wayne Gretzky in the late 1970s, Michael Jordan or Andre Agassi in the early 1980s or Tiger Woods in the early 1990s.
LeBron even managed to get some slack when his academic institution turned down ESPN's offer to broadcast his final game at his school, out of fear of turning the game into a circus event. Back up for a minute: In December 2002,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ESPN2 broadcast a game against Oak Hill Academy with Dick Vitale and Bill Walton announcing it to over 1.5 million viewers. The game went down as the second highest rated show ever on ESPN2. Suffice to say that ESPN2 wanted an encore, and what better time than his farewell game?
Yeah,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whatever. The school was probably peeved because it was not going to touch any money. The first game did very well but it was the promoters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and not the school, that benefitted. After all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], similar to Tyson,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], LeBron is on his way to striking it rich, very rich.
The hype with which he is landing into the NBA is frankly unheard of. Wayne Gretzky did not experience it, neither did Mark McGwire, nor did Eric Lindros or even Shaquille O'Neal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Allen Iverson or Kobe Bryant. LeBron has thus far "out-hyped" all other highly touted prospects by a mile. As he prepares to enter the league, he should consider turning money away for fear of -- excuse the language -- being pimped by anyone and everyone that sees an opportunity to cash in on the LeBron James effect.
