Post-Hurricane Kayaking So before church on Sunday Nic texts me asking what my plans for the day are. I text her back that I didn't really have any. When I see her at church I ask her what she had in mind and she mimics a rowing motion. So kayaking it is.We head out and get dropped off under a small bridge and we're off. My first words to Nic are, “You know we're going to run into some down trees.” and her reply was something along the lines of, “Of course.” We get around two bends and are faced with a large down tree blocking the entire way. So we pull up on shore and try to decipher how we can drag the kayaks around the down tree and put them back into the water. Of course it's no easy task and when we drag the first kayak half-way we hear some woman screaming, “No, no, no!” At first we had no clue she was even talking to us, because her house was quite a distance away. Finally a guy yells, “You can't go that way, it's private property.” So Nic calls back, barbour online, “Okay, we were only trying to get around a downed tree.” To which the woman replies, “I don't care, belstaff motorcycle gear, stay to the river!”No matter where Nic and I go together, we somehow always end up trespassing. So begrudgingly we drag the kayak back and paddle back against the current to our original starting point. Here are our gross feet after trying to trek through the mud.We get picked up again and try to take off from a friend's backyard. We run into several down trees. I felt like I was in a puzzle game and each tree was a new level. One tree we did have to pick up the kayaks and drag them around, but luckily that only happened once and we didn't get yelled at a second time. Most trees we could find a way to squeeze past. The only difficult ones were when we had to limbo underneath them. The largest tree gave me the most problems as the piece I was holding broke off in my hand sending all these small pieces of wood down my shirt. To top it off we had to scoot all the way down and lie flat in the kayaks to get through. Also let me just mention how flip-flops are not the shoe of choice if you ever have to drag your kayak around a tree. The mud was ridiculous and we both almost lost our shoes multiple times. Another instance where I was using a branch from a down tree to pull myself through Nic notified me afterwards that I almost put my hand on a spider the size of toilet paper roll. *shudder. The worst down tree was the least threatening looking. It had a lot of small branches that were in the way and Nic said to me, “We're just going to have to push through.” So I was like, belstaff outlet uk, “Okay” but on my way through I got caught by one of the sturdier branches and ended pushing myself backwards. When I was out of the branches I noticed there were around 30-50 small bugs all over the front of my and the kayak. Freaking out I proceeded to take a long time to flick them off. At first I thought they were ticks, but then noticed they were easily squished and had longer legs. So gross. They were crawling all over my body and I mostly worried they were crawling up my shorts. We saw that the tree branches were covered in these small bugs. Nic managed her way through only to yell that she thought some were in her hair. Too freaked out I continued to flick them off of my and the kayak before Nic devised a way for me to get through bug free. (We spent a great deal of time at this section.)When we finally arrived at our destination we agreed that kayaking shortly after a hurricane probably wasn't the best idea, and if it hadn't been for the bug-filled tree it was a fun time. Please note the amount of leaves and tree debris we collected based on our kayaks at the end of our trip, and keep in mind we'd been sweeping some off along the way.I like to think Nic was secretly trying to kill me. Lol. NOT TODAY NIC! After we were done, we were all scratched up from tree branches and dirty. It made me feel like we had just finished some sort of fight club. Also I was very sore the next day, I'm so out of shape. :P
