Area children need your generosity
Sponsored each year by The News-Herald, Clothe-A-Child provides new, warm clothing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], coats and shoes for 5- to 12-year-olds in need from Lake,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Geauga and Ashtabula counties.
With Ohio's unemployment rate holding steady between 9 percent and 10 percent, it's no stretch to say that the number of area children who fit the above description also has remained steady. Demand for assistance of all kinds remains high.
But sometimes numbers don't or can't tell the whole story,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Consider the following: Program director Laura Gray said that after recently going on a Clothe-A-Child shopping trip,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a 12-year-old boy called her to say,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "Thank you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I feel good about going to school tomorrow."
The good news is the boy received the help he needed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The bad news is there are hundreds more area kids without much to look forward to this holiday season.
Those kids would never even know to ask for it, but in many cases,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they rely on the generosity of people like you.
Over Clothe-A-Child's first 29 years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], your generosity has resulted in more than $3 million in donations. Last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the program took in $115,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 056.41 despite a recessionary economy.
Donations are accepted year round,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and so far this year $16,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],337.80 has been raised.
It should be noted that 100 percent of the donations received go toward shopping for area children,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as The News-Herald covers all the charity's administrative expenses. 15 so children could receive clothes for school.
Shopping will continue into January,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Gray added that this year she intends to surpass the number of children helped through the program last year.
