Albert Pujols Jersey Burned,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Shortly after three-time NL MVP Albert Pujols agreed to a 10-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels, a couple of angry St. Louis Cardinals fans expressed their feelings by burning an article of Pujols apparel.
At one point, the man taking the video says, "Sorry, Albert. This is what we think of your Angels."
Despite more than a decade of meritorious service, including two championships, in St. Louis,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this jersey burning doesn't come as much of a surprise. After all, jersey burning seems to be the de rigueur reaction among passionate sports fans that feel spurned -- or, at least,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], those who feel spurned and also want to get themselves on the local nightly news.
Cleveland fans famously burned LeBron James' jersey after he bolted for the Miami Heat. Even Chicago Bears fans burned Jay Cutler's jersey after he sat out the late stages of the NFC Championship game against the Packers with what was later reported to be a sprained MCL,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Whether these Cardinals fans are truly furious (they seem pretty polite,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], actually) or just striving for attention,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], burning Pujols' jersey is totally unnecessary. After all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he dominated for 10 straight seasons with the Cardinals on one of the most team-friendly contracts of any superstar. A metronomic right-handed slugger,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Pujols hit 30 or more homers (445 total) in 10 consecutive seasons. Pujols has been so revered in St. Louis,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that there is already a 10-foot, 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],100-pound statue of Pujols at West Port Plaza (which is now being guarded by security guards just in case). Does all of that go out the window because he has opted to play the second half of his career elsewhere?
It's okay to be upset. But there's no need to disrespect one of the most beloved figures in St. Louis sports history.

HuffPost High School welcomes a lively, thoughtful debate in the comment section. Its like does that uniform you're wearing mean anything to you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it does to us, in fact little boys (and big boys) hearts are broken because we do care and just because we are true lifelong fans. I remember the great hall of famer right fielder Al Kaline of the Detroit Tigers(all in Detroit) in the last yrs of his career refused a pay rise because he was in the twlight of his career and didnt think he deserved it and. finally retirement for the good of the team
In the case of LeBron , he was a FA who could sign any place he wanted and the fans of Cleveland were upset because he decided to play elsewhere. Usually players chase after the best contracts but LeBron actually took less money to play in Miami. Fans were so upset because he was a local guy and because they knew that Cleveland would not see another star like the homegrown LeBron probably for another 20 years. Dan Gilbert was the worst as he placed a contract in front of LeBron and hoped until the last minute that he would sign and when he did not , Gilbert went on to say he didn't want him anyway (yeah right ).
AP tried to get a deal worked out but St Louis said NO to the terms of the deal and thus shut off talks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Albert played the season and played well enough to help lead the Cards to the title,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Once the season was over he had the upper hand and tuned out offers from the Cards and entertained offers from other teams. He too was a FA and free to sign with any team he wanted to. I know the fans can be disappointed but how can they be mad at Albert. He tried to get St Louis to sign him to a contract but they did not like Albert's terms and he signed with a team who liked his terms,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
